As a conservative Christian parent, the recent law passed in Colorado (House Bill 25-1309) regarding parental rights is deeply concerning. This law, which was signed into effect by the state’s leadership, raises significant issues for any who believe that the responsibility for raising and guiding children should remain firmly in the hands of the family, not the state or other external entities.

The law in question allows minors to access gender-affirming healthcare and make decisions about their identity without the consent of their parents.

You do not have to be Conservative or even Christian to believe that children should not be encouraged to make life-altering decisions without the guidance and wisdom that comes from parental oversight. Secular and sane will reach the same conclusion as well. As parents, we are tasked with the responsibility of guiding our children through the complexities of life, offering them moral guidance, ensuring their well-being, and helping them to enter society as productive, healthy, contributing adults…as opposed to deeply depressed, deeply disturbed malcontents in eternal and suspended adolescence.

For people of faith, this law undermines the Biblical view that parents have a God-given role in making decisions for their children.

Hey Colorado, you passed a law that absolutely infringes on the right to practice religion without hindrance from government.

The implications of such a law could be far-reaching, especially for young people who are vulnerable to confusion or external pressures when it comes to gender identity. It is concerning that children as young as 12 can be encouraged to pursue treatments like puberty blockers or hormone therapy without parental knowledge or consent. I say again, WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT.

Furthermore, the law could lead to significant emotional and psychological consequences for children who are not yet mature enough to fully understand the long-term ramifications of their decisions. Parents, who have a vested interest in their child’s well-being, are now powerless to protect them from what they believe are hasty and irreversible medical interventions.

The Colorado law also reflects a broader cultural shift that seeks to prioritize individual autonomy above the family unit.

The law also raises questions about the role of public schools and other institutions in shaping children’s beliefs and decisions. In an era when schools are becoming more vocal in their support of various progressive ideologies, many parents fear that their children will be encouraged to make decisions that align with political or social agendas rather than grounded in reason, faith, or the guidance of their families.

As Christian parents, we are called to protect our children, to shield them from harmful influences, and to teach them about their identity in Christ. The passage of this law in Colorado only reinforces the need for vigilance, prayer, and action to ensure that parental rights are respected, and that the well-being of children is placed at the forefront of societal conversations.
