1. A prayer for finding rest.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30

God, I’m tired and stressed by the relentless demands of caregiving. My mind won’t stop racing, and I feel completely drained from taking care of everything. I hear your invitation to come to you, so I’m taking a break right now to sit quietly in your presence. Please relieve my stress and help me get the rest I need. Help me to stop trying so hard in my own strength. I give you my desire to fix everything on my own. Send me the assurance I need that you’re holding both me and my loved one safely in your hands. Thank you; amen.

2. A prayer for God’s strength in weakness.

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” – Isaiah 40:29

God, I feel completely weak. The physical work of lifting, cleaning, and managing the day-to-day details of my loved one's life has taken all my energy. I feel like I have nothing left to give. I’m holding onto your promise to give strength to people who are tired and to give power to those who feel weak. Please pour your energy into my body and my spirit right now. When I wake up in the morning still feeling exhausted, please give me the energy to take the next steps. Remind me that it’s okay to be weak, because that’s when your great power can work through me. I trust you to give me the strength to get through every hard task today. Thank you; amen.

3. A prayer for endurance to keep doing good.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Galatians 6:9

God, it’s so easy to become weary when I’m doing the same hard tasks every single day. Sometimes this work feels invisible and thankless, and I start to feel frustrated or upset. Please protect my heart from becoming bitter. Remind me that when I serve my loved one, I’m really serving you. When my patience runs low, please change the way I look at this situation. Show me the importance of serving through humble tasks like those I need to do as a caregiver. Give my spirit a fresh breath of life so that I do not give up. Help me remember that this loving work matters for eternity, and give me the daily endurance I need to keep going.

4. A prayer for renewal.

“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.” – Psalm 23:1-3

Jesus, I need you, my shepherd, to lead me to spiritual renewal and revival. I feel lost and empty. I spend so much time taking care of someone else that I sometimes forget how to take good care of myself. Please help me take good care of my own well-being, as well as my loved one’s well-being. Lead me away from the stress of all the ongoing responsibilities and refresh my perspective so I can connect with you and experience your love for me in fresh ways. Remind me that you will give me everything I need, even when I’m dealing with significant challenges. Guide me as I make vital choices as a caregiver, and let me rest in the confidence that you’re leading me well every day. Thank you; amen.

5. A prayer for peace to overcome anxiety.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7

God, I have so many worried thoughts about the future and what will happen to my loved ones’ health. Fear takes over when I think about things getting worse, and it steals my peace. So, right now, I’m handing all these worries over to you. Please fight anxiety for me and meet all the needs I’m concerned about, for medical issues, financial issues, and everything else. Thank you for always taking care of us in the past, and I know you won’t fail us now. Give me your peace that’s much stronger than any stressful situation, and let it guard my heart and mind so I can just focus on today. Thank you; amen.

6. A prayer for God’s grace in stressful situations.

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

God, I often feel like I’m failing while doing this caregiving work. I get impatient, angry, and sad because the pressure is so high. I try to act strong, but inside I feel like I’m not good enough for this big task. Thank you for telling me that your grace is all I need right now. You don’t demand that I be a superhero; you just want me to give my weakness to you. I choose to rely on the strength you’ll give me day by day. Help me to focus on what’s strong, not wrong, in this stressful caregiving work. Let your power rest on me. When I feel like I cannot go on, let that be the place where you hold me up. Thank you; amen.

7. A prayer for connecting with God’s presence for help.

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” – Psalm 46:1

God, when I feel overwhelmed by the challenges my loved one and I face together, I need a safe place to escape the pressure and get the help we need. Thank you that you, yourself, serve as that safe place for me and that you walk closely with me personally through every caregiving challenge. You’re not far away watching me struggle. Instead, you’re right here with me through your Holy Spirit, and you’re with my loved one all the time, as well. When everything around me feels crazy, keep me calm and steady. Give me the wisdom and the help I need for every new problem today. Thank you that I never have to face a crisis alone, because you’re always right here. Thank you; amen.

8. A prayer for overcoming fear.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10

God, the fact that I’m responsible for another person’s care sometimes makes me feel very afraid. I’m scared of making the wrong choice, running out of money, or not being a good enough caregiver. Please help me replace these scary thoughts with your truth. Remind me that you’re always available to help me and my loved one with everything we need. Since you’re my God, you promise to personally strengthen me, help me, and hold me up. Hold me and my loved one steady with your strong hands through every scary situation we face in this fallen world. Take away my fear and give me confidence in your daily care. Thank you; amen.

9. A prayer for comfort in loneliness.

“The Lord replied, ‘My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.’” – Exodus 33:14

God, there are times when I feel lonely on this caregiving journey. It feels like the rest of the world has moved on, while I’m stuck inside these walls doing hard work that nobody sees. In my loneliness, I hold onto your promise that your presence will go with me everywhere. Thank you for being right here with me, constantly, seeing every kind thing I do and sharing my sadness. Please help me notice your presence with me and connect to you in ways that help me feel your love. Thank you; amen.

10. A prayer for letting go of burdens.

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7

God, I’m tired of carrying the emotional weight of this caregiving, the sadness of watching my loved one suffer, and the constant worry about tomorrow. These burdens are too stressful for me to carry by myself. So, right now, I’m letting go of my burdens and trusting you to make a way for all of those problems to be solved. I place my caregiving burdens in your capable hands and commit to relying on your help for each situation, day by day. I know you love both me and my loved one completely and unconditionally. You also see how stressed and exhausted we are. I leave my burdens with you today and choose to trust your good heart. Thank you; amen.

In conclusion, caregiving is too hard to do in your own strength, and God never meant for you to do it alone. By praying these 10 verses, you can welcome God’s peace, rest, and strength into your life whenever you feel overwhelmed. Asking God for help is vital to keep going. As you walk through each day, remember that God is with you and your loved one, and he will always meet your needs!
