Newly revealed records show that Democrat Sen. Elizabeth Warren identified herself on a 1986 registration card for the State Bar of Texas as an "American Indian.”

The Washington Post reports Warren's registration card, which was filled out by hand, signed and dated April 1986, is significant, among other reasons, because it removes any doubt Warren directly tried to claim the identity.

The potentially damaging revelation came the same day Warren tried to put the controversy over her claims of Indian ancestry behind her as she starts a 2020 bid for the White House.

Just last week, Warren was forced to apologize after Cherokee leaders were outraged that she took a DNA test to try to prove her claims of Indian ancestry.
