Conservatism on TV?

There are few sitcoms as politically incorrect as Last Man Standing and after ABC's recent decision to cancel the program, conservatives are standing up to save it.

The ABC comedy stars Tim Allen as an outspoken conservative who loves joking about the political left and former presidential candidate Hilary Clinton. In recent months, the character even openly mocked college snowflakes and microagressions on school campuses

Fans were surprised when the show was recently cancelled after its sixth season. The announcement by ABC that the show wouldn't be returning was met with shock and outrage from the program's fans. The show has been steady in the ratings despite the fact that it airs on Friday nights (a tough night for programs to succeed).

The ABC president of entertainment has addressed the controversial cancellation to The Hollywood Reporter noting that "here are many factors that go into the decision-making process: ratings, critical acclaim … of course we look at ownership structure."  The latter point refers to the fact that some shows -- like Last Man Standing -- that air on ABC aren't owned by the network, meaning that oftentimes the network makes less of a profit on them.

Still, many conservatives are fighting back against the sudden departure of the comedy. A Change.org petition to save the show has already amassed over 300,000 signatures. Members of the cast have shown support for the petition and so has Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, who has tweeted out about the program
