And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” – Romans 5:5, NIV.

One of my favorite ways to relax after a hard day’s work is to enjoy herbal tea. Most evenings, I’ll keep pouring multiple warm cups of caffeine-free tea in different flavors: raspberry, mint, orange, and many more. It’s a simple habit that brings me significant stress relief and enjoyment. So, I buy lots of tea to help make sure I never run out.

But I’m much more grateful that something else in my life won’t run out: God’s love! Thanks to the work of God’s Holy Spirit in our lives, we can enjoy God’s love being poured into our hearts. Whenever we embrace God's hope, our hearts are ready to receive more of God’s love, which is always available to us. God pours his love into our hearts. What a beautiful truth! God doesn’t give us just a little drop of love. He doesn’t hold back or make us earn it. God pours his love out freely and generously.

When we feel tired, lonely, or discouraged, God knows exactly what we need. Just like we reach for a hot cup of tea to comfort us on a cold night, we can pray to God. The Holy Spirit lives in us and is always ready to fill us with God’s love. We never have to wonder if there will be enough. There is always more than enough, because God’s love is unlimited

Sometimes, life can feel harsh and heavy. We may go through days when nothing seems to go right. Our nights may be filled with worry or sadness. At times like those, we may feel empty inside. But Romans 5:5 reminds us that we never have to stay empty. The Holy Spirit is always ready to repeatedly pour God’s love into us. All we have to do is ask God to do so. When we pray, he gladly fills us with his love. Prayer is like holding out the empty cup of our hearts and letting God pour his love back into us.

As we drink in this love, just like we drink warm tea, something changes inside of us. We’re strengthened, comforted, and encouraged. God’s love relieves our stress and brings us peace and joy. We can overcome our challenges with fresh cups of God’s love. The warmth of God’s love carries us through any situation we may face.

The more we receive God’s love, the more we can share it with others. Just like one pot of tea can fill many cups, God’s love is more than enough for us to pass along. When we’re warmed and strengthened by God’s Holy Spirit, we can encourage, comfort, and love others. We don’t run dry, because God keeps pouring. We can rely on God’s supply of love, because it never runs out!

So let’s remember that God’s love is always available to us. We don’t have to chase it or try to earn it. It’s right here, ready to be poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. All we need to do is ask. We pray and invite God to fill us again whenever we feel empty, cold, or tired.

Let’s pray:

Dear God, I often feel empty, weak, and tired. I try to carry burdens alone, and I forget that you’re always ready to help me. Please forgive me for the times I’ve wanted to walk alone. Right now, I’m holding out the empty cup of my heart to you. Please pour your love into me. I need your Spirit to refresh me and carry me through each day and night. Please help me to trust that my hope in you will never put me to shame. Remind me that your love never fails and never runs out. God, as you pour your love into me, help me also pour it out to others. Let me be a source of encouragement and comfort to the people around me. Let the warmth of your love in me spill over, so that others can see you through my words and actions. Thank you, God, that I’m never alone, and that your Spirit is always with me. I’ll rest in your love today. Amen.
