New York Mayor Bill de Blasio is trying to push the Green New Deal by going after the city’s steel and glass towers that form its signature skyline.

Fox News reports De Blasio, speaking on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” said that city’s iconic tall skyscrapers are the “biggest source of emissions” in New York City.

The mayor is looking to force property owners to retrofit their building to use less steel and glass, and requiring them to slash their emissions by 30 percent by 2030, warning that they could be hit with massive fines if they fail to do so.

De Blasio claimed he drastic change, and a switch to only renewable energy within five years, are necessary for the Big Apple to embrace the Green New Deal.
