Mullahs In A Vice

RSS Feed

Merchants have taken to the streets of Tehran in protest over the economic situation in Iran.  Meanwhile, Trump and Netanyahu are applying pressure from without.  The Iranian President “urges’ the government to respond to the protest, proving how pointless the position actually is.  The Mullahs that actually run that country are in a vice and being squeezed from all sides.  Some see echoes of Tiananmen Square, but it should never be forgotten that in the end those protests failed.  China has grown far more authoritarian since.  The Mullahs have been a source of great evil in this world for a very long time now.  We hope this most difficult situation would spell the end of their heinous regime, but will it?

I lack the expertise and knowledge to even begin to make a prediction.  I know that protests do not a revolution make and airstrikes alone do not topple a regime. I know that something must be rising to replace the Mullahs.  Simply removing them from power only creates chaos from which could rise something better or something far, far worse.  I know that this mess was created to begin with by the United States’ misguided meddling in Iran.

I know that it is fortunate that The President of the United States and the Prime Minister of Israel are together at this potentially historic juncture.  I wonder, deeply, if that is coincidental.  I pray it is not and that there is a plan in place.  We have witnessed Israel’s intelligence operatives do things previously thought to only be the purview of fictional spies like James Bond or Jack Ryan.

Mostly I pray.  I pray for an end to this evil that has plagued the world for so long.  I see an opportunity for that to happen, but opportunities are missed everyday.  So I pray.
