In The Absence of Shame

There has been much hay made in the wake of the DOJ raid of the home of Congressperson Ilhan Omar, and subsequent interviews. Look people, we don’t know what we don’t know, and we don’t know a lot. There is very little we can conclude from what we do know. But there are two things I do know.
Thing I know number one – Ilhan Omar is without shame. But then so much of our society is these days. There was a time when the mere suspicion created by such a raid would drive someone from office, because we demanded that only our best occupy such office. But not anymore. In the absence of shame, the politician plays the victim and we don’t wish to be perceived as piling on, so they keep the job. I don’t know what’s worse – her shamelessness or our willingness to go along with the nonsense.
Thing I know number two. This shamelessness is leading to the increased politicization of our justice system – and that is not good. Omar is clearly using her political standing to prolong the legal activity – forcing our Department of Justice to continue with a politically loaded investigation and possible prosecution. Back in the day an honorable politician would have left office simply to avoid such politicization of the DOJ – their guilt or innocence notwithstanding. They were first and foremost, public servants. The public is best served with an apolitical Department of Justice.
But no, we have become brazen in our unwillingness to accept shame. We broadcast our sin and dare people to tell us we are wrong.
Ilhan Omar – I have no clue if you married your brother or not. I have no idea if you committed other crimes, or not. But I do know that by staying in office under these circumstances, you are harming our republic. Please resign.
Meanwhile, in other news:
The more time goes on, the more we learn “the science” was wrong at almost every turn when it came to covid. But then it was about politics and pop culture, not science, to begin with.
“Debanking” has to be the most reprehensible conduct I have encountered since being in the segregated South in my childhood. It is without argument bigotry and discrimination – we are supposed to have learned to be better than that.
Only because we are lazy. If we are industrious enough to do things for ourselves, A.I. won’t take over. Even if it can do pretty cool things. (Try that with more than a paragraph and see if you can fool me.)
And in California:
The most amazing thing to me is that increasingly California is dropping the mask. It is not ideologically blinded and unopposed, it is simply corrupt.
Where do you think all that money is going? Obviously not into the transportation system.
But there are times the fraud is more direct.
“Why do they continue to chase reparations?” you may ask. Oh come on – if there is fraud now, consider what there would be when that pile of money started to accumulate.
The mob used muscle to scrape money off the top of whatever they got involved in. But in California, the government uses voter fraud. It’s easier.
